Happy Bosses' Day

I had no idea there was a Bosses' Day until today, LOL. Stacey sent me a text at court telling me that she and Jessica were taking Kurty and I to lunch for Bosses' Day, and I thought it was a made-up day by them or something, LOL. Stacey showed me in her planner though, it actually IS a real day! :). Anyway, we went to Mexican Gardens and it was a really, really nice lunch. We lingered because we had not scheduled any in office appointments this afternoon. Kurt and I decided to leave early too, so I was not at work very much today since I had court all morning. We came home and both of us fell asleep and took naps for part of the afternoon, and I enjoyed watching random afternoon TV that I never get to see. Maury was a great one with paternity tests, LOVE those. Tonight we had sushi and have just chilled at home.

Last night, I saw Legally Blonde: The Musical at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit. I totally, and completely, LOVED IT. Not surprising at all, since the movie is my favorite movie. I would see it again I loved it so much. I highly recommend it to anyone who has the chance to see it.

I am researching buying two new ceiling fans for the living room. I think I have it narrowed down to the one I want to buy, but I am still looking just to make sure. the ones in the living room I have NEVER liked. Mostly because the guy who built our house had horrible taste in lighting. The one I like it pictured above, and is by Minka Aire, which I have never heard of before. Seems like a nice brand though from the reviews the fan gets on sites. We are going to have an electrician come to the house to fix some odds and ends in the house, and will have the ceiling fans put in then.

the heat was not working in our house this week for two days, and was finally fixed yesterday, which is awesome. We found a new guy to work on thte furnace, a referral. He is awesome, super fast, and best of all, CHEAP! Hooray! Three trips to the house and his labor cost was only $65. I almost felt guilty about it, but I paid him what he asked......

Vito has still been coming into the office daily to get his drops. I think his eye looks like it is improving, but the little mark from the cut is still kinda there. Hopefully, he is given a clean bill of health on Monday and we can stop bringing him in. I love having him there, but I dont get as much work done, because he likes to sit in my lap! :).

i am going shopping with two of my Aunts tomorrow. Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Staying Positive

A website/blog I was on tonight really made me sit back and think.

We, and society in general, tend to get upset about really trivial things. Get mad at people for stupid reasons. Get worked up, yell, get stressed out, over things that could easily be forgotten.

I try to live my life by seeing the positive side of things, the glass half full. I try to take bad situations and make them good, but I still to complain, and get worked up about things that should not really matter.

Anyway.

An attorney I know, who worked in the downriver area (and now lives elsewhere) was diagnosed with glioblastoma, which from what I read, is a very aggressive form of brain cancer. She had a headache that would not go away, and proactively had it checked out, and this is what was found. She had surgery, she is having chemo. Through ALL of this, she stays positive. I am sure she has her down days, but her journaling of everything is so upbeat and positive. I wonder what I really have to complain about, EVER. She has a potentially deadly cancer, deals with constant medical treatments, and is only 30 years old.

Does it really matter if a restaurant screws up our lunch order? Does it really matter if that person cuts you off on the highway? Does it really matter if another attorney annoys me on the phone?

I think we all need to step back, daily, and appreciate what we have. Our family, our friends, our significant other, our pets, our careers, our health, whatever. Cuz you know what? No matter what is going on in your life, it could be worse. And if this individual I am talking about can stay positive, then so can all of we.

Right?

So, when things seem horrible, think about the good things. Take a deep breath. And smile.

13 Years

How crazy is it that I have now been with Kurt for 13 years? Insanity. And our relationship just gets better all the time. I could not ask for anything more in a husband, and although neither one of us in perfect and we have our disagreements, I think we have both discovered some of the secrets of an almost perfect relationship, although really, I can't even share them because I can't really describe it in words.

I am truly blessed to be married to someone I consider my best friend, and get to spend so much time with him every day since we work together as well. I love that our relationship is soooo easy, and I am never one to say that our marriage is work at all. It just "is", and I would not have it any other way.

Anyway, HAPPY DATING ANNIVERSARY, baby! I love you, and can't wait to spend the next 13 years with you (and more).

Book Review

I read this book on vacay, and it was the first one I have read by this author. Loved it. Very cute, easy read, and the women in the book were around the age of my friends and I, so very relatable to situations of those I know and friendships I have. Nothing complex about this book, but that is exactly how I like my books. I think enough at work, I don't want to ponder the fate of the world while reading. Anyway, I ordered another book by this author, which I started reading the other night, and so far, so good! :). Happy reading!

Happy Anniversary to Me! And Kewl New Site.

I found this site, after seeing a ring I fell in love with in In Style magazine....who knew reading while working out would result in my spending money? :). Anyway, I went to the site, and tried finding the ring I wanted, and it was not on there in the color scheme I wanted. The one on there was this one, and I liked the one in the magazine (pictured here) because of the two tone colors. So, I sent an email to the site asking if they had the ring in the colors I wanted, and they wrote RIGHT back on a Sunday night (great customer service) telling me yes, just place the order and they would send the correct color to me. So, I did!

Can't wait to get the ring. I love jewelry, but I have a LOT of jewelry, so it's rare for me to find something that I really want, and I love the vintage look of this.

Secrets**

Weird Hearings.

Coupons

I heart coupons. Needed a new pair of jeans for winter, so decided to stop at NY and Co to see if I could find some that fit right. I hate shopping for jeans. I need them in tall generally, and most stores do not carry them. I am really picky about style as well, and I hate skinny jeans and anything tight.

Anyway, tried on three pairs and liked them all, but settled on a pair similar to these, but a darker colored wash. I also ended up buying a really cute jacket in black, a cute shirt to wear under my suits in cranberry, two bodyshapers to wear under the jacket I bought and another jacket i have (as well as under sweaters I have as well or suits), a necklace, and three pairs of socks. I used a coupon I had for $50 off! And, they gave me another coupon at checkout for use in November, where I get $45 off if I spend $90. Love it. I wore my new jacket and one of the tanks to dinner with the new necklace. We had dinner tonight at Nick and Nino's and watched some football. It was nice.

Also stopped at Best Buy today because I had $40 in rewards dollars to use that expire soon and I ended up buying a Spanish program which I started using today. Today, I worked on numbers, colors and time. I am going to try and do a little bit per week.

I had two interesting hearings on Friday, which I am going to private blog about.

Tomorrow, if the weather is OK, i may head to the state park and take some pics of the leaves changing colors.....Also really need to get some laundry done and mop. Ugh. Taking pics sounds better, I think. :).

One of my friends in northern MI said that they got SNOW today. It did not stick, but still, snow? NO. Mother Nature, please let the snow stay up there and in Iowa with Megan, or in Colorado with Alex, and leave me alone. I am not ready for snow.

Update on Vito

Vito had an appointment today for his eye, and the specialist said that although it is healing slowly, it IS healing and he will be fine. They gave him two other drops (now he has three) and he has to go back for a recheck on Monday. They did some other tests on his eye too, and Kurt said he was a perfect pug angel through all of them. He loves vets. He is so weird, but, that's why I love him! :). I am just glad that he will be OK and will not need surgery or anything. He is getting to be quite the fixture at the office though. He mostly sits in a chair next to my desk and snores through appointments. He is going to be mad at us when he starts staying home again. Poor guy. ;).

Had a massage last night. Loving the new girl I am seeing. She is crazy mean, almost to the point where she uses too much pressure, but not quite--which is perfect for me. Since my last appointment until this one, I had no migraines, nothing, and I did not feel like i *needed* a massage, before the appointment. During the apppointment, it became apparent that I did, but still, it's nice to not feel screwed up all the time.

This week has been pretty hectic at work, as I dont know if there has been one day where everyone was in the office at all times of one day. Jessica was out sick part of Monday, and all of Tuesday, and then part of the day today at the dr. Kory was out sick this afternoon. Misty was out with a sick daughter yesterday and took tomorrow off. Stacey was at a conference most of the day today (which was a good thing though since it was for the office). Vito had two dr appointments that took Kurt out of the office. And we have had court, like usual, every morning. There was a short time today when I was the ONLY one at work, which was SOOOO odd. I will be glad when everyone is not sick. I don't know how I avoid the sicknesses, but then again, even when I am sick, i am working, LOL. I have to pretty much be dying to not work. Such is life when you are self-employed. But, i got a lot of work done today, oddly, as I finished a Brief I was working on, and cleared off some of my desk.

Anyway, I know this post is random, but that's all I got! :). Pic above is from the Sansa plane going from San Jose to Golfito. Love the small planes that allow pictures to be taken like this......I miss Costa Rica already and we have barely been gone. :(.

Michael Vick Sucks

You have GOT to be freaking kidding me.

I can't believe he murders all those dogs, and NOW, we let him have a TV show.

Unbelievable.

Cd Rec

This is a great cd. Just got it via eBay yesterday and am almost thru listening to the entire thing. Really relaxing, and great second cd for Colbie.

Random Updates

Saturday was Lori day! OK, not really, but I managed to get a lot of things done, for me, that needed to be done. Headed to David Broadway salon to get my hair highlighted and cut, and my eyebrows waxed. Had 6 inches of hair cut off the back. This is crazy for me! However, it must not be too crazy as Kurt cannot even notice a difference, LOL. I, though, feel like a ton lighter without the longer hair. I would say it's mid-long in lenghth now. I love it. The color turned out amazing, as usual. Then, as I was checking out, I saw a sign by the door. They were offering 30% off services if you took the spot of someone who had cancelled that day. I saw a mani/pedi appointment 5 minutes later which I snagged. Had that done, then headed home. Bought new Aquage shampoo and conditioner while there (which I totally recommend, it is the BEST prroducts for my hair that I have ever used) and because I bought two products, I got one for free, another shampoo. I have been needing to do all the above, and was glad to have it done at one place in one afternoon! Whoot! My colorist told me, while I was there, that she is switching salons to this place called Studio 51, so now i have to decide if I am going to switch salons. Really, color is the most important thing to me, and I really like her, so I prob will. checked out the new place online, and it looks like their prices are cheaper too, so maybe I will try it once and see. Came home and spent the rest of the night doing stuff around the house, then went to dinner with kurt to watch some games. We tried this new sports bar near our house called Nick and Nino's, which I loved. Had fish tacos, really yummy, and the service was great.

Sunday, during football season, Kurt spends the bulk of the day watching 800 football games, so I decided to do things around the house, grocery shop, and go look for long sleeved shirts at Kohl's. I finally broke down and decided that it is cold here, and I cannot wear t-shirts and capris any longer. I had $20 in Kohl's cash and a 30% off coupons. Got some awesome deals there. Everything I bought was on sale. I bought Kurt two new sweathers and two long sleeved shirts, and bought myself 9 long sleeved shirts (which includes sweather and knit shirts). Also bought three rings that are super cute, my fav was one that cost $4 after all deals. Whoot. At the grocery store, I used a TON of coupons and saved a LOT of money there too. I heart saving funds! :).

Jessica sent me a text on Sunday that she has shingles! I had no clue what it was, but after researching, figured out it is not contagious if you have had chicken pox, which everyone at the office has. How painful though. She came into work today, but, she ended up leaving early and is now not coming back in until Wednesday, so we are down one until then.......Thankfully, court is not too crazy tomorrow and Wednesday.

Last night, I made Kurt a 7-layer dip (which I slightly modified taking out salsa and adding banana peppers, oh, and changing black olives to green) from a Kroger recipe I got in the mail. It was super yummy (I tried a bite)

Vito's eye is not getting too much better, so I had to make him an appointment with a specialist. I don't even remember if I blogged about this or not, but the morning before we left for Costa Rica, Vito was kinda squinting with one of his eyes and we took him into the vet. He got some kind of small cut on his eye, but they do not think it is anything horrible. They gave us drops to give him with a recheck appointment. They rechecked him the day we got back, and things had not improved so they changed th drops to new ones. We have been giving him those and took him back last night and although they think he has improved some, they suggested taking him into a specialist to be sure. So, we have that appointment tomorrow. Poor little guy! He lucked out though, since the drops are every two hours, he has been coming into the office with us daily. :).

Trip Report--Costa Rica September 2009

So, our Labor Day trip this year happened a little bit late…….at the end of September. This year, we chose Costa Rica again, but an area different than we have been to before called Golfito. We went to Costa Rica from 9/24-2/29.

Thursday, we left super early from Detroit and flew via Continental Airlines through Houston to San Jose, Costa Rica. We were staying one night in San Jose, as there are no later afternoon flights to Golfito, our final destination. We got there, and our hotel near San Jose, the Holiday Inn Express, picked us up at the airport. As soon as we exited the airport, they were there with a sign with my name on it, and we jumped on their shuttle and headed to the hotel. Got there, and we were all exhausted, so we took a 1.5 hour nap, then headed out to the Hotel Del Ray, as Kurt really wanted to show Kory the spectacle that it is. The hotel is known for it’s prostitutes (which is legal in Costa Rica). Anyway, it was crazy. We had dinner there and just watched the action. There is a casino there as well, but most guys go just to check out the “eye candy” and hire girls for the night. The way it works is so odd there though, the guys have to almost “court” the girls, hang out with them and get to know them, and then they head off to a room. It was great entertainment. Anyway, the food there was really good, considering that the place is obviously not known for good meals. After dinner, we played a little bit of blackjack, then headed back to the room. I was exhausted, so while Kurt and Kory headed next door to Casino Fiesta, I stayed in the room and showered, read a book, and watched TV.

Friday, we got up super early again to catch our flight to Golfito via Sansa Air. Got the small airport and checked it, waited with the other 8 passengers to board. Really small plane, but great flight. Arrived in Golfito at the airport and a taxi picked us up and took us to the boat dock, where the captain of the Golfo Dulce Lodge’s boat greeted us and took us on our 25 minute boat ride to the Lodge. Arrived at the Lodge and to breakfast, which was good. Fresh fruit, eggs, meat (for Kory), fresh squeezed juice, toast. During breakfast, a herd of peccaries was spotted nearby, so we all got up to go see them. Pretty kewl to see one of my fav animals within 10 minutes of arriving! The peccaries remind me of pugs--they look like large hairy pigs and snort like them too! After that, we were shown to our room and unpacked some. Our cabin was nice……two beds (one single and one double), with a bathroom and a living room seating area, and a large front porch with a hammock and chairs. Decided that day to head into the City of Golfito to meet with a realtor Kurt had contacted prior to our trip about seeing some property on Tower Road in Golfito (a 300 acre jungle parcel). So, the boat captain took us back into town, and on the way, we saw dolphins! Swimming and jumping right next to our boat. That was awesome. Found the Realtor, and she took us to that piece, as well as another one she thought we might like. The 300 acre piece ended up not being what we wanted. A lot of the property was this really steep drop, and would have been really hard to hike and explore. The other piece however, was pretty kewl, but more than we currently want to spend. It had a house, pool and two cabins, with 110 jungle acres. We will keep it on our radar, although, I do not think Golfito is where we will end up living. It’s a tiny bit too remote, I think. Anyway. Had lunch at this place called Buenos Dios in town, which is the ONLY air conditioned restaurant in Golfito. Food was yummy, I had shrimp with rice and black beans. We explored Golfito some, then met Kory at this bar near the ocean, where he was drinking and waiting for us. Kory fished some with the bartender at the place (called Samoa Bar and Restaurant), and we then headed back to the lodge for the night. Saw some macaws and toucans, had dinner (needle fish, which was a first for me and super yummy) and went to bed. Oh, we found out we were the Lodge’s ONLY guests for our time there. There were more staff working than us (the guests).

Saturday, we got up early to hike to the Tower at the Lodge. On the way, we saw agouti, coati, macaws and toucans. Went to the top of the Tower, which was really high and overlooked the entire jungle. Had breakfast, then went on a boat tour of the Rio Equinas. Wow, it was HOT. This was the day, even with sunscreen, the three of us got burned. I mostly only got burned on my shoulders and top of my back though, which was good for me because usually, my entire body burns from the sun there the first time exposed. We saw a lot of birds on the tour, as well as caiman and crocodiles. The tour was pretty kewl as we did not really see anyone else during the entire thing. Pretty deserted river. Came back and had lunch, then took a nap on the hammock on the porch. Headed to the beach at the Lodge, laid in hammocks there, and watched the macaws play in the trees and scream at us. They have the funniest call for such a gorgeous bird……Kory went swimming, and we napped some and I read a book. After that, headed to the house and property next door to the Lodge, which was for sale. Met with the owner, but the house only has two acres and she is asking too much for it. We also think she sells drugs or was doing them….LOL. Came back to the Lodge and took an awesome hike on this trail, where we saw capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkeys, scarlet macaws, and other birds. This was the closest I have ever been to squirrel monkeys ever. Saw them in the Osa last year, but from afar. Chilled and played Scrabble until dinner. Took a short night hike where we saw a snake, some frogs, and a turtle (near the pond at the Lodge).

Sunday, got up and headed on a hike to the Lodge waterfall. Glad we had a guide for that one, as we NEVER would have found it on our own. It was on an unmarked trail that went ALL over the place--walk in the river, go up on a trail, back in the river, etc. We wore large boots because the Guide said “sometimes snakes swim in the river we are walking in”. Yes, please, I will take the boots! :). On the way to the waterfall, we stopped and the Guide knocked some coconuts out of a tree and showed us how to peel and open them, and we got to try coconut milk, which tastes NOTHING like coconut. It was very sweet and good! And I do not like coconut. He also showed us how to take palm leaf and make it into little creatures. Although we all sucked at that. The waterfall was beautiful. We stayed there for a while admiring it and walking around looking for creatures. Kurt found a tarantula in a hole that was pretty freaky. Came back to the Lodge and had breakfast. We then relaxed a lot the remainder of the day, playing cards and Scrabble, hanging out at the beach. Took a short hike later that evening and say a tayra (which I had never seen before) and an agouti and various birds. Had dinner, then took another longer night hike through the jungle. We saw a kinkajou, heard owls, saw frogs, toads, turtle, various spiders and bugs, etc. After that, bed.

Monday, we got up and had breakfast and headed to a nearby town via boat called Puerto Jimenez. Explored the town, and bought some souvenirs and had lunch. Kurt bought a wood carving of a squirrel monkey and a painting of a red eyed tree frog. I bought a really kewl local carved vase with monkeys on it. Kory bought a soccer ball. We had lunch at a place called Juanitas Restaurant, which served Mexican food. Found an Internet café with air conditioning so we could check our email and such. Headed back to the lodge after that. Hung out at the beach and played Rummy, then headed on one more hike at the lodge. Kurt and I headed out ourselves and we saw a TON--peccaries (9), agouti, macaws, 4 green parrots (which was awesome, as they are really rare to see for us anyway), and squirrel monkey CRAZINESS. They were everywhere. We stood there for quite some time and watched them, and I think there was at least 15 of them playing above us in the trees. They are super adorable. I was in heaven. Went back to the Lodge, and Kory had seen a fer de lance while we were gone! Which is a really poisonous snake, if you are bitten you have to get to a hospital within 2 hours to get treated or you will die. The snake came right into the dining area and was just chilling near the pool. Had dinner, then went to bed.

Tuesday, got up super early (again) and headed to catch our flight. Took a gorgeous early morning boat ride, taxi met us, then we waited at the airport. Got into San Jose and had a long layover, so we checked our bags and did all the stuff with the tax you pay to leave the country, then headed to lunch at Denny’s nearby. Came back to the airport and did some shopping at the airport. Bought a really kewl wood carved bowl, and some postcards, then charged my phone and checked my email. Flight to Houston, then layover, then Detroit. In Houston, Kory got stopped by the customs drug dog, and had all his stuff searched. First time I have ever been in the customs area. They of course found nothing and we got to the Detroit flight just in time. Got home at midnight and that was the end of the trip!

Overall, another awesome Central American trip. Highlight of the trip was probably the squirrel monkeys and scarlet macaws, as well as the remote location of our Lodge and all the wildlife available for viewing right there. Oh, and the dolphins we saw. Lowlights would have been the couple early flights (I am so not a morning person), and the lack of Internet at the Lodge. It did not really bother me, but it was killing Kurt to now know the scores of several games going on, like the Tigers and Lions. He survived though. The weather was also extremely hot and very muggy, but it’s better than MI, so I won’t complain!

Home "Sweet" Home

the quotes are because I would obviously rather be in Costa Rica.

but, I am home, all flights were safe, and I am working on the pile of work on my desk today.

i will try to work on pics and start a trip report this week.

to sum it up though, we had an awesome time. loved the golfito area, and the lodge we stayed at was really remote, and had a TON of endangered wildlife. i felt completely relaxed, which is rare for me, and when I was not exploring little towns and hiking with the monkeys, I was sleeping in a hammock on the beach or the porch of our cabin, or kicking Kurt and Kory's asses at Rummy. Bliss.

More later.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

We are entirely packed! I think it's a record. Kurt usually refuses to do so until we are about to leave.....

So, Britton is house sitting when we are gone, and we have everything ready for him. Kory stocked the frig with beer, and a long note is left for him regarding the babies. Vito had to go to the vet this morning, unexpected, and now has eye drops to take for the next couple weeks. He scrathed his eye on something in the yard. Nothing bad, but enough to require some meds. Poor little guy. He spent the day at the office with us though, and liked that. He loves the office and being spoiled.

We fly into Houston and then onto San Jose tomorrow morning. We will explore San Jose tomorrow (Kurt and I have been there before, but Kory never has, except the airport). Kurt hopes to take Kory's pic with somoe prostitutes in the casino in San Jose, LOL. We then leave on Friday morning for Golfito, for our happy lodge in the middle of freaking nowhere. We take a boat there and there is like no internet, electricity, nothing. Generator powered stuff, but it will be amazing. I love being totally cut off from the world. I need it, with how crazy the office is. Speaking of crazy, today was insane. I filed 13 bankruptcies, and did a ton of other paperwork, appointments, phone calls, etc. I did get a lot of stuff done though, and hope to not come back to too much insanity. Stacey and Jessica have to cover a lot of hearings and stuff while we are gone, and it is the first time Kurt and I have really gone anywhere since they started back in January and March! Well, I guess we went to philly and london, but we rescheduled everything during those trips. Just tomorrow they have like 12 hearings between the two of them. Fingers crossed that everything goes well for them. It will be hectic! :).

I am hoping I am not forgetting anything. I always seem to forget SOMETHING. Usually eye make-up remover. Or cotton balls. Or my contact case. But, I think I got it all! :).

Anyway, talk to everyone when we get back!

Random

This week has been really busy, and since we are trying to get everything done before we leave, it's even more crazy....

Started packing tonight so I am not running around like crazy tomorrow night doing it all. Brought the backpacks up from the basement and got all my t-shirts tanks, shorts, capris, hiking shoes, etc., all ready. I cannot wait to get out of town for a bit........

Super psyched. Today, Tigers playoff tickets went on sale to the general public. They first offer tickets to season ticket holders (not me), then they have a raffle for tickets (i was not drawn), and then open today. I went on, and Kurt, at 10 and we got tickets to both possible games. That is IF the Tigers make the playoffs, and if we go to a game 5. There will for sure be a game four, but not necessarily five. Hopefully! :). I can't wait. And I am thrilled to not be totally killed with the price on eBay or Craigslist. Face value! Super yay.

I hung a huge world map in my office yesterday, which was prob a mistake because now I want to travel more, LOL. But today, I bought some tacks, and starting putting red ones in the places I have been to, and green ones in trips planned. It looks pretty kewl! :). I realized just how much of the world I have NOT seen.

Yesterday, I was complimented by another attorney on my shoes and my purse! :). It was a male doing so, AND he was not gay! :).

Almost time to leave on vacay. We leave really early Thursday morning and I may not be online at all during the trip, so this may be my last post before I get back. I will journal everything while there and do a trip report when I return. The lodge has no internet access, so I do not think I will bring the computer just because I dont want extra stuff to carry around.

Night.....

PUMPED

Booked our Uganda flights! Super yay! I wanted to a long time ago, because I was worried they would go up in price, but Kurt wanted me to hold off (he hates spending money before we need to). Anyway, it is now late September, and the trip is December, and I want them booked. I started looking for flights, and it looked like they had gone up, so I was kinda annoyed, but whatever. THEN, I looked at leaving the day before we were planning on, and the flights had gone way DOWN in price. So, I booked right away. The flights are going to be exhausting.......Really long, but because I am adding a day on, hopefully in that day, we can catch up on sleep and stuff and get all ready for the start of the safari.

Anyway, we are flying KLM (NWA) and Kenya Air. We basically fly from Detroit to Amsterdam to Nairobi to Entebbe. Am glad we are not flying into any "iffy" countries on our way over there.

Cannot wait for this trip, it is going to be aMAZing.....

Update

Busy, busy week at work......

Today we worked for three hours (I got a lot of stuff done, I think Kurt got nothing done, LOL) and then I went out to run some errands. Stopped at Sam's Club to buy some essentials, then headed to Kohls and NY and Co since I had coupons. Found like NOTHING at NY and Co, which is rare, so I stopped at Macy's to look at shoes and found nothing there either. Went to Kohl's and bought Kurt a U of M sweatshirt (we are going to a game in November and I wanted him to have something to wear), bought some new sheets (in navy) and a new pillow. Want to try this form of pillow to see if it helps with my neck always going out of place. We will see......Tonight, had dinner at Crave with Cassie and Ken, which was super fun and really yummy. The weather is starting to really change here....i wore a long sleeve shirt to dinner, but am refusing for fall to be here yet, so I wore it with capri pants and heels! :).

Tomorrow, I plan on doing NOTHING. Well, maybe some things around the house, but nothing that requires leaving the house, unless it's a quick jaunt to the grocery store. I am trying not to buy much for the house right now since we leave on Thursday for vacay! Can't freaking wait.

Me, as a Kid--RIP Patrick

I was a pretty good kid. If you ask my Mom the worst thing(s) I did, she cannot come up with much, truthfully! :). My sister more than made up for that though, LOL, and I always say that my sister had a lot more fun as as kid, and was way kewler than I was. But, my type A kinda personality stopped me from being much of a rebel, and I am glad that I did not cause my Mom much heart ache growing up.

Once, my Mom saw I was over tired, and she told me I could not go to one of my games (I was a cheerleader). I ran away (which consisted of running up the hill near our house), and when I saw her drive by looking for me, I ran home. And stayed for the night.

My Mom (and I) were huge readers. I used to steal her Jackie Collins and V.C. Andrews books off the bookshelf, quickly read them, and return them, as she did not think they were appropriate books for me when I was younger. REBEL LORI. Still love those authors, BTW.

And lastly, she really restricted the movies I could watch. So, what did any rebel kid do? I watched them at friends' homes. Becky Tennant, Julie Parks, etc. Their houses are where I saw Pretty Woman, Silence of the Lambs, Heathers, Dirty Dancing. And Mom, you were right about Silence of the Lambs, I should have NEVER watched that. I had nightmares for weeks. And, the movie still freaks me out.

Dirty Dancing was one of my favs. And still is.

So, I was sad tonight to hear of Patrick Swayze passing away. I am not one who gets overly emotional or even cares when actors die, but I loved that movie, and since then, have liked him. I always thought he seemed like a really down to Earth, nice guy, who was a great, loyal husband, and loved animals. Cancer sucks, and I wish it would have not ended his life at such a young age.

So, I am still sick, which sucks. I was sick all weekend, with the sore throat. And rebel me, listened to the doc and did not start taking the prescribed amoxicillin until Sunday, when I was still sick. Sunday though, my sore throat started feeling better, but it was replaced with a stuffed up head and nose. Today, I am just kinda out of it. In the middle of an appointment tonight, I almost had to walk out because I felt like I was going to throw up. So odd. This sickness is not fun, but I am trying to force myself to be better. I dont have time to be sick! :). I even skipped my Board meeting tonight because I did not want to vomit in the middle of it. Good idea, I think. It was just a committee meeting, no voting, so it's OK.

Anyway, hope everyone had a nice weekend.

Sick. :(

So, three days this work week, my throat was bothering me. I was hoping it was weather change related, but alas, it is not. Went to the doctor on Friday because my throat was hurting SOOO badly, and she said it is not strep, that I have some kinda viral thing. She did write me a script, but told me not to take it until Sunday, and only if I was not feeling better. I woke up today with a fullblown cold, runny nose, cough, throat still hurting, UGH. So, I spent the day on the couch, watching 90210 episodes and various TV, surfing the net, and napping. Watched the Michigan game with Kurt too, which was an awesome game. Glad I did not watch the State game, since they lost to CMU. I think State's season is over about now, LOL. Who loses to CMU?

Had dinner on Thursday night with Mel and Tammy at PF Chang's. We wanted to take Tam out for her bday, she turns 40 this weekend, which is crazy to me since she looks like she is under 30. Anyway, I got her a gift card to Kohls since she loves to shop and we had an awesome time at dinner talking and gossiping. Love those girls. They always relax me, and it is so nice to catch up and stuff.

Remember when I blogged earlier about a secret gift I had bought Kurty? Well, it came this week and he really likes it! I got him a nice pen for the office, and it is made by Porsche. I got a great deal on eBay for it. He has been using it a lot so I think it is a hit! :).

We had a great hearing on Friday, but i will most likely secret blog about it since I don't like blogging about the office on here......

Night!

Three Hours a Day

Seriously, during the work week, that is about what I have to myself per day. Will post more about this later on the secret blog, but there is a reason behind my frustration.

So, on a positive note, had dinner with my Grama, Aunt (Karen), Dad, and Kurty on Monday. We went to a place called Brann's in Northville, which I would rate as below average. Everyone was just kinda "whatevs" about their food. We did have a good queso dip as an app, but can you really screw that up? It was nice, however, to see everyone and hang out, as I had not seen any of them in longer than usual. Saturday and the rest of Sunday were spent at home, not doing much, which was exactly what I had planned.

This week at work has been insane, which should be anticipated since we had Monday off. I don't even know where the days have gone. My desk is, yet again, piled with work that I am desperate to get through, however, my days have not allowed much of that to happen. I was in court today until 1, and Tuesday and this afternoon were all day apppointment insanity. Plus, I feel like I have some sort of cold or something coming on, which is NOT good. I am hoping it is really allergies looking like a cold. The weather is changing, so it's entirely possible.

Took Vito to the vet yesterday because he has been doing this wheezing thing. He has bronchitis! Poor baby. Basically, it means he has a bad cold. The doc gave him medicine for that as well as a pain killer for his throat. He already seems all the way better. Wish I got better that quickly from meds when I am sick! :). The meds make him tired, so he is being ultra cuddly at night when we are here.

Came home tonight and did some laundry and made dinner and am chilling. I went to bed early last night, trying to fight this cold, and will go again early tonight probably.

Oh, I got the new clothes I ordered on clearance from Banana Republic and Gap. Love all of it. One of the shirts I did not get because they ran out, but I got a t-shirt from Banana that fits awesome (I love longer length t-shirts and this is perfect), a sweater to wear over tanks and shirts which I love as it's really unique and the other shirt I have not worn at, but kewl cut sweater. The Gap bra is great too, I may be loving theirs (when on clearance) from now on. Since I think Victoria's is lacking, i am really opening up to other places and finding them BETTER than Victoria's.

Interesting

This article is about one of the Judges I appear before quite often in Wayne County. I love his courtroom, he is a really nice guy, and VERY accomodating and open to everyone. IMO, he would never intentionally try to make anyone feel uncomfortable or impede on their religious beliefs. I think this woman (from reading about the case and other things) just wants her day in the spotlight and money, which is so wrong. Anyway, here is the most recent article and a video clip from court that day.

Whirlwind

Wow, I can't believe that this entire week has gone by and I have not posted since something quick on Monday.

This week was crazy busy. I had a lot of either crazy busy appointment days in the office, or long days in court. Barely had time to breathe, ugh. Had some fun stories at the office, which I will blog about in the private blog and post a link to here later.

So, my Mom was in town part of the week. Thursday after the Tigers game, they met us at the office and came to the house for the night. We all went out to dinner at Michigan Bar and Grille, then hung out at the house for the night, which was fun. Today, I headed over to relatives in Farmington Hills to hang out with my Mom and everyone again today, which was super fun. Got to see my cousin, Carolyn (who is 12) and hang with her a bunch. We all went shopping and to lunch, and I bought her a backpack for school for her birthday. We had dinner there too, and cake for Carolyn's bday. Nice day overall. Oh, I bought a hilarious shirt at Kohl's too. Remember the Fisher Price People that most kids played with as little ones? Well this shirt is dark grey (t-shirt), and has those Fisher Price People going across it. The shirt then says "chillin with my people". I normally do not like shirts that say anything on them, but this one cracked me up. Of course, cannot find a pic of it. :(.

Nothing too exciting going on besides that....Hope everyone has a nice holiday weekend.

Cleaning Out my Closet

I cleaned out most of my closet this weekend L(literally, not figuratively), and am donating like two garbage bags full of clothes and shoes to Good Will. Insane. I was pleased when going through it all that I did wear the stuff and don't feel like any of my past clothing purchases are wasteful or anything. My style has just slightly changed, and my motto is "If you have not worn it in a year, you are never going to wear it...." While doing this though, I found a cute dress I forgot about and a pile of workout pants I had forgotten about, so YAY!

Now, I need Kurt to do the same thing.......It's been like two years since we went through things and donating anything.

Saturday and Sunday Fun

Saturday

Got up this morning and headed to Belle Isle to meet Rebecca. We go there prob like once a year or so to takes pics and aimlessly wander. We went to our normal places--the conservatory, the fountain, the old casino site. Took pics, then headed to lunch and Ulta. Rebecca had never been there, and she bought a few things. I had a coupon to use, and of course, the store suckered me into buying some other things. Bastards! Ulta and Sephora--cannot go to the store without buying SOMEthing. It's like a law, I think......Anyway, after that, we headed to lunch at On The Border. Food was awesome, but we ate too much and I was so full from that I did not even eat dinner tonight. Stopped at Old Navy after Rebecca and I parted ways, and I bought four new shirts. That store was CRAZY busy. Not sure if it's school starting soon related or just a busy location, but WOW, insanity. Anyway, it was really, really nice to catch up with Rebecca and just to see her in general, yay.

Spent the rest of the night at home with Kurty, doing some things around the house, and just chilling in general Finished watched How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days, which I had never seen before. It was really cute. And the necklace Kate wears at the party with the yellow dress? Gorgeous! It's kinda sad how much after a movie comes out that I see it. Seriously. I am lame. Gotta love Netflix though!

Below is what I bought at the stores (for the links I could find).

Also, click here to see pics from Belle Isle.

This t-shirt in plum color.

This in peacock.

This in black combo.

This conditioner, on clearance, whoot!

This cleanser (I have been wanting to try something new, and this line gets high reviews, so we will see)

This treatment

Got this eye make-up remover for free with coupon! Whoot!

Sunday

So today, did not go much either, which was the plan. The weather was nice--sunny, and perfect temps, so I decided to take my camera out again and head to the State Park near my house. I love it there, and I thought maybe i could capture some of the initial fall colors. Mostly everything is green still, but there were a few yellow, red, orange leaves scattered. It was really peaceful and quiet there today, practically nobody around. I love the sound of the birds, the water creatures, etc. Came home and did some things around the house, worked out, made dinner, started watching Laguna Beach Season 2. It's weird how Kristen is the narrator in this one. I like it with Lauren better. Click here to see pics from Sterling.

Went shopping online today at Banana Republic's sale site. I got an email coupon for 20% off and free shipping, and with temps dropping, I need some fall clothes. I ordered the following, we will see if I like it when it comes!

Long Draped Cardigan in Black

Sweater in Black

T-Shirt in blue

Tee in Suede Grey

Oh, and decided to try a Gap bra. On sale, and an hoping I like their line of stuff.

Hope everyone had nice weekends! :).

Nice and Relaxing

**Pic above is of me and Kurt at his Mom's 70th bday party.....Kurt's bro, Scott, took the pic and sent it to me today via email.

So, I had no set plans this weekend, which was aMAZing. I needed a couple days to chill. We basically stayed in all weekend, only leaving to have dinner one night at a place i wanted to try, and to stop by a furniture store I wanted to look at. Bliss. I really cherish doing nothing, once in a while. Speaking of the new place we tried, it is called Michigan Bar and Grille. It is owned by the owners of our fav sports bar, Pete's Garage. It is slightly more upscale, and has better food. I had an amazing cajun pasta.........

Sunday night, I booked our flights to San Jose, Costa Rica, and then to Golfito, Costa Rica. We are flying into San Jose on 9/24, and will explore there for the day and night, and then leave super early on 9/25 for Golfito. Golfito is kinda on the other side of the Bay from the Osa, and the resort is just outside Piedras Blancos National Park. We are staying at the Golfo Dulce Lodge. What's funny about this Lodge is that it has been on the market for a little bit and Kurt really wants to buy it, LOL, so I guess he can check it out while we are there. It's just a little bit pricey though, haha. I am very psyched to get away for a few days, it is long overdue. We normally go at the end of August, so Kurt and I are going to be pretty much craving some time away at that point. Kory is coming with us, and he is super psyched too.

Work was INSANE today. I seriously do not know where the time went. I was crazy busy this afternoon with appointments, I barely had time to breathe.....Which is bad, cuz breathing is totally a necessity! ;). All my appointments went well, but it was really draining, and we did not get home until 730 pm, UGH. I wanted to work out, but instead I made dinner and have been trying to relax. It takes me a while to unwind from days like today.

Tigers

Last night, went to the Tigers game with Kurt, Kory and Jessica, and met our friend Gary and his girlfriend, her daughter and her daughter's friend. We had Gary's business partner's season tickets for the night.......Seats are right behind home plate, in the upper deck. I don't normally like the upper deck, but these seats are actually really good. Third row. Jessica and I got up at one point to use the restroom and on our way back, we ran into Paws, the Tigers' mascot! We got pic with him, it was a lot of fun. It was also an AWESOME game, and we won. Loved it. Jessica and I were cracking up at the guys in front of us. There was a group of older men. One of whom kept talking to us and all of whom were appalled when we cheered for Clete Thomas, who is a fav of mine.

Can anyone tell me why the Mariners bullpen pitchers wear pink backpacks? I think they are very stylish, yet maybe moreso for a 5 year old? HAHA.

Also, the Tigers have started incorporated ballet into their pregame workouts, I am impressed with their variety in workouts. GO TIGERS!

Was on the phone a lot of today dealing with customer service with HP for Kurt's laptop. I was SOOOOO frustrated. Everyone I spoke to barely spoke English, and I was about ready to throw Kurt's computer across my office and just buy a new one. Finally, at the end of my agony, they are letting me send it in, and telling me what they think is wrong. Which I already knew at the start of the conversation, but they still have to run 8 million diagnostic type tests. LAME.

Kurt bought another arcade game today, Asteroids. It is pretty fun, like the others. Worked out, made dinner, and am chilling on the couch now! :). Night.

Choices on a Sunday

Went into the office for a really short time, had an Answer due on a Bankruptcy case that needed to be filed today since this week is crazy and I had to make a quick call.

Spent the rest of the day at home, with the exception of dinner out for sushi. Where we sat next to one of the most obnoxious sounding laughs i have EVER heard. This girl was SOOO loud, you could hear her in the bathroom AND near the front door--outside! OMG. I did not want to turn around and stare, but I told Kurt that she better be REALLY hot, becasue with that laugh, most guys would not be able to stomach her for long. Crazy. Everything her friend said, she was almost screaming she was laughing so loudly. Ugh.

So, we are trying to decide where to take our Labor Day trip this year (although it is not happening on Labor Day, it is happening at the end of September because of some issues with dog sitters for the pugs). I have narrowed it down to three options and have been researching details and prices, as follows:

1. Darien Gap in Panama. This option would be aMAZing, but I think it is going to be tabled for now. It is pricey, and Kory is coming on this trip, and I just don't really want to pay for three people. Plus, it could be potentilly dangerous, as it is near the Columbia border, so I dont know if I would want to take anyone with us, just in case.

2. Tortuguero Bay in Costa Rica. This area we have not been to yet in Costa Rica and it is the nesting area of 4 different kinda of turtles. It is also has a lot of other wildlife and marinelife and looks pretty kewl.

3. Lodges near Piedras Blancos National Park. This area is kinda near the Osa where we went last August, but on the other side of the Bay. I am leaning towards this trip, only because I had such an amazing time in the Osa last year.

Who knows though. I need to start making decisions and booking stuff though.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

Next chapter

Next Chapter of the Firm

In Review....

So, trying to recall the week since I have not posted any real content since Monday! :).

Monday night, had a board meeting. It was unbearably hot in there, something going on with the AC. We had a lot of stuff to cover, and I had to keep fanning myself, ugh, to even be able to stay awake.

Tuesday, had a massage after work, which was awesome. I needed it badly. My one shoulder is always so much higher than the other when I go in, and I have no idea what I do to make it that way. But, I felt much better afterwards. Yay.

Wednesday, had dinner with my friend, Nancy, from law school, after work. We ate at Portofino's, and it was really yummy, as usual. It is nice to sit on the deck and gossip......

Went to Kohl's today because I had a 30% off coupon I wanted to use. Of course, when I have a coupon, there is never much I really like at the store, LOL. I wanted to buy a couple new blankets for our bed though, as the two we use the most are starting to , andwear out. So, I bought two blue blankets here and here (my room is shades of blue). Ended up buying Kurt a few shirts on clearance racks (2 dress shirts for work, a casual Ralph Lauren polo like shirt, and a Tigers shirt). Bought myself two bras on the clearance rack (SCORE) and ended up buying a Shark steam mop, after Mindy recommended them a while back. They clean solely with steam, which I like, since a lot of cleaners can be harmful for the dogs and bugsy. I tried it out a little bit on our living room floor and it seems to work really well!

Jessica, one of the attorneys at our office, got really sick on Thursday. She went to the doctor who said she either had strep or mono. I was really hoping it was not mono because that could mean she could be out of work for weeks.......This morning, she texted me that it is strep, so yay for that. Mono in adults can be really bad, I have heard. Plus, I need her at the office. Monday was already crazy, and I had to move a bunch of stuff around. I was not looking forward to doing that for weeks on end. We kinda just schedule whatever on the calendar because with 4 attorneys, we can cover everything. With 3, it makaes it a little more tricky.

It's so weird football season has started. It does not feel like football season weather.

Other than that, not much going on! Work has been pretty busy, and I have kinda felt a little tired lately, so I have kinda just been trying to rest at night. Hope everyone else is having a great weekend.

OMG It's Hot in Newport!

Weather here is crazy hot. When I was driving home from grocery shopping today, my car said it was 98 degrees outside. Add Michigan humidity to that and you have weather where you don't go outside....Ugh.

Anyway, had a nice Sunday. Met Rebecca and Lea for lunch at Pete's Garage. Lea was driving home to Ashland, and has been wanting to try Pete's since Rebecca always raves about it, so we all had lunch there. It was nice to see both of them, and to see Lea's "bling" (which is her nickname for her engagement ring, haha). After that, I forced myself to get a pedi/mani. Yes, forced. I really did not feel like going, but needed to since I wear a lot of heeled sandals to work. Anyway, I headed to the place I usually go to in Monroe, and they are CLOSED. No! Like permanently. Ugh. So, I found another place. They did a really good job, but I had to wait a little bit. I guess everyone had the same idea as me today with the horrible weather. Headed to Meijer after that to grocery shop, then headed home for the night.

Found an awesome deal on shoes tonight! I had a gift cert to use at amazon, and amazon had a coupon for $20 off if you spent $80 if you bought shoes from shoemall.com. I ended up getting these from Sofft:
and these from Vaneli, which are a brand I have never heard of. I basically got $212.98 in shoes for $43.98! Love deals and love nice shoes. Sofft, which Angel introduced me to, are the most comfy dress shoes I have ever owned. They are expensive though, so I have to wait until they are on sale and really marked down.

Anyway, hope everyone else had a nice weekend! :).

Random

What is UP with my lack of posting lately? No idea.

I was in court a LOT this week. Kurt has beenn day trading again, thus I have to make appearances in court. I actually have been kinda enjoying it, minus the waits for my cases to get called. I like talking to other lawyers and seeing the Judges, watching some of the crazy hearings that happen, LOL.

This week has been exhausting. Kurt found a dog tick in the house and so we have been cleaning and treating EVERYTHING. We moved all the living room furniture to the basement, as well as our mattress and box springs. So, every night after work, I have been cleaning or doing excessive amounts of laundry, etc. AARGH. We also took the dogs for baths and gave them tick and flea treatments. So, a lot of work on top of normal work stuff. Ugh. I hope we have taken care of the issue.

Last night, we had dinner with our friend Gary and his girlfriend. We had not seen him in a while, so it was fun.......Ate at Dolce Vita and stayed there quite a long time talking. I was the only one not drinking, yet again. I think I am totally boring, LOL, but whatever. ;). Today, I did some work around the house, then we ran into town to run some errands....I want to get some new living room furniture, but saw nothing I liked at any of the stores we went to. I want to move the living room furniture to the basement, but will just wait until I find something I like. We are kinda picky because of the dogs and because of comfort. Went to dinner at Vaqueros and came home. Watched the Tigers lose BADLY and am trying to relax now.

Oscar has been panting really excessively lately, so we ran him to the vet. I googled the condition and was of course, convinced it could be something bad. The vet found nothing, and said it might be related to the humidity, or changes/stress (all the moving of furniture and stuff lately and the flea/tick meds). So, we opted out of xrays and blood work and will monitor him a few more days and see how he acts. He seems really warm, but he did not have a fever. Poor buddy.

Anyway. Even though I have not been posting, not much exciting going on......:). Hope everyone else is having a nice weekend thus far.

Reunions

Wednesday, had dinner with Mel and Tammy after work. It was really nice to see both of them and catch up.......:). Love dinners with friends. I had bbq salmon and the food was really yummy.....

We worked late Thursday night, then Friday night, had dinner at our normal sushi joint. And had much better service than last week. We saw the server from last week, who did not wait on us because she was TRAINING someone. Found that hilarious.......Worst waitress there, training someone else. I am kinda scared for the future of the place......Stopped at Elder Beerman to try and find someone new to wear to the reunion. Bought Kurt a Perry Eliis short sleeved dress shirt that is green and white, and ended up buying myself a Laura Ashley green necklace and three new shirts at Sears. I could not believe I found shirts at Sears, I usually do not like that store, but they actually had some cute stuff that was CHEAP. All on sale. Weirdest thing happened at Elder Beerman. I was looking for shirts for Kurt and I hear this guy say "You can't surprise me with a gift if I can see what you are buying..." I looked around and realized he was talking to me. he then says "Are you married"? Seriously, he asked that. I said yes. He then says "How come all the ones I want to date are married"? I think I said something like, "Yea, that does suck for you." I literally HATE getting hit on. It makes me uncomfortable and I do not in any way encourage it, and it still freaking happens all the time, but not usually this obviously. He then says "How about a hug?" I was like WHAT??? I kinda laughed and walked away. Wow.

Saturday, slept in, then started packing and getting ready to head to Bay City for Kurt's class reunion. We drove up and got there early so we went and had dinner, as we had no idea if the reunion would have fish or veggie options. Got ready for the reunion. I had no idea what to wear. Kurt told me not to wear anything too fancy, as it's "Pinconning" and nobody dresses up. So, I went ion between. I wore a newer black shirt I bought on Friday night, and one of my summery skirts from Ann Taylor that is green, white and black, with Bandolino heels and a cute new green necklace. The reunion, surprisingly, was a lot of fun. Met a lot of people....The music was great (all 80s pretty much). Kurt pretty much got trashed, but since we rarely drink, it was pretty amusing. I had one drink at the start of the night. The hotel was really nice too, and it was nice to simply take the elevator to our room afterwards and not have to drive home. Kurt pretty much passed out as soon as we got back to the room, and I watched some Suze Orman then fell asleep....

Went to Pinconning after the reunion today to take Kurt's mom to lunch and give her some pics I had printed for her. Drove home and have pretty much just chilled. I wanted to go get a pedi, but was too lazy to drive into monroe. Took a walk around the yard and played around with my macro lens, worked out, and played some arcade games.........

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!
